"I would like to learn some skills miss. And I will swear loyalty if that is what's needed. "
"Mmm, well then," Avelia said thoughtfully. "If ye've sworn loyalty, then ah s'pose ah can't stop ye. Firs' lesson- donna swear loyalty blindly. Tha' be the wors' thing to do, any case. It's wha' makes the knights knights, and us, us. This, lass, be wha' 'appens when ye swear loyalty.. She turned her wrist over, and clenched her fingers into a fist. Her scar stood out more vividly than ever- ridged skin against smooth white. A blood oath scar.
"Secon' lesson- find out who yer talkin' to, who they are. If ye can, know who they are before ye start talkin' to 'em, tha' way they can't lie so easy. For example, lass, does ye kno' my name?"

The womans's scar looked like it had once had been quite painfull. SHe wondered if it was a blood oath scar, she was told that they never faded. "Secon' lesson- find out who yer talkin' to, who they are. If ye can, know who they are before ye start talkin' to 'em, tha' way they can't lie so easy. For example, lass, does ye kno' my name?" Una smiled slightly, maybe she should ask if her hunch was correct.
"Well miss, since you fit 'er description, I'd say you her royal 'ighness The queen. Forgive me if I'm wrong. 'Jus' you kno' my name, and I ent' tell you that yet. So you sound like you cou;d walk through walls. I didna' spot you earlier." If this woman really was the Queen she was good at lying and saying she wasn't.

"Tha' be right. Good guess, lass. Ah ent so sure 'bout the walkin' in walls bit- tha's jus' wha' some o' them Rogues say. Ah get hurt as much as anybody when ah try. An' as fer yer name, well, ah wouldn' o' got a straight answer if ah'd asked, ay?" If Una had asked, she would have been given the name Liv- Avelia's newest Corus identity. Sure, Liv was redheaded and flirty, but Una wouldn't have known the difference. "So ah've got to follow my own advice, somehow. Now's we're all introduced, then, what were yer here for, an' am ah gonna see yer friend around?"
Apparently the Rogue would be gaining itself it's newest member. Avelia eyed her. She wondered why Una had decided she wanted to become a Rogue of all things. It wasn't as glamourous as it sounded. Sure, the dark side of life, on the opposite side of the law- it sounded very romantic, particularly to a young girl. But in truth, a lot of it was fights, close escapes, being caught, desperately trying to salvage missions...a lot of pain. A Rogue needed to have a high pain threshold. There was no use in a Rogue who stumbled with a dagger in the arm- they needed to keep going, keep fighting. And be fearless in the face of death- or at least, appear so. The real brutes- they fed on fear. That was why Avelia was so suspicious of new, younger members. Nobody, she had decided, would be forced into a life of killing because they didn't understand.

Una would not be an ideal rogue, she had not been an ideal thief, she did not especially like hiding. But she could act, and she could lie, and most of all she would usually survive. "Tha' be right. Una smiled. "Doubt it miss. She 'ent very reliable that girl." She was sure The Queen had guessed already that her friend was never coming since her friend did not exist. If she hadn't guessed already, why would she have kept asking about her?

"Doubt it miss. She 'ent very reliable that girl."
Avelia suppressed a smirk, choosing instead to grab a glass from a passing server, and down the whole draught in a single swallow. Couldn't Una just admit it? Well, she supposed she could understand why not, but...
"An' thir' lesson, righ' here. Donna try lyin' to yer Queen, lass, 'cos tha' ain't the bes' way to be convincin' 'er yer's trustworthy, ye think? Besides, she ain't come down in the las' shower, Una. A good liar can usually tell, when another's lyin'. Expectation, an' the like."
She settled back in her chair, and flickered her eyes to a strange instrument she pulled out of a pocket. It made a soft, ticking noise, and she acknowledged it with a nod.
"Well then, Una, lass, ye'd be wantin' to actually be doin' stuff, ay? No use hangin' round 'ere." Avelia grabbed another two glasses, sliding one across the roughly hewn table with precision and a flick of the wrist. "To the Rogue, cos' ye can't leave 'ere wi'out a tastin'.[/i]

The Queen did not seem to trust, but she supposed that was understandable. "Well then, Una, lass, ye'd be wantin' to actually be doin' stuff, ay? No use hangin' round 'ere." It was true she wanted to do something. Although she kept being patient. Avelia grabbed two glasses, sliding one to Una, who caught it and looked at it sceptically. "To the Rogue, cos' ye can't leave 'ere wi'out a tastin'. Una raised her glass, and when Avelia drank, she tried to down it in one, In the end, to stop herself coughing (which would seem very stupid) She had to gulp twice.
