After having left the Dancing Dove, Damien walked idly through the market streets. He paid no attention to the bustle of the shoppers crowded around him, he was only trying to think. The three Rogues posed a bigger problem than some of his friends realized. If they even attempted to overthrow Avelia, they would need more than just their wits. The Rogue Queen was a rather enigmatic woman, and she could smell a dangerous plot from a mile away. The malcontents would need a force larger than the Rogue itself, or at least enough to overpower those loyal to the Queen.
Supposing that the three lads did muster up enough power to boot Avelia from her throne, it would send almost the entire Lower City into turmoil. Most of the people Damien knew that lived in the Lower City were affiliated with the Rogue, and a revolt would most certainly affect their lives.
He felt a sudden pang of guilt for leaving his friends back at the Dancing Dove. He then shook his head, reminding himself that he came out here to think through what was happening. With an inward sigh, he continued walking.

Saraneth had left the Dancing Dove shortly after Damien had, and she to had a lot on her mind. At least she had enough sense to wear breeches and tunics at times like this...wearing skirts would make the whole process even more difficult, if something were to happen.
The marketplace was overcrowded today, with servants out buying foods and goods for noble masters and the everyday common people just buying as much as they could with the money they had. There were even nobles out riding their horses through the marketplace, some taking care to guide their mounts through without hurting anyone, while others just didn't care. She continued walking.
For some odd reason, she had much more on her mind than just the uprising against Avelia. The three rouges could prove to be a match, but the way they told everyone in earshot of their plan was stupid. There could be spies who where loyal to Avelia all over. There was that of course, but there was one way up above it, and she couldn't get it out of her head. She still remembered Bael's words about how she was just like him when they had been at Masbolle. She'd killed him...but was he actually dead or was he just floating somewhere in between?
She walked along before she was shoved by some arrogant passing noble's guard to make way for his master. She glared at the guard and continued along her way, making up for some lost time. She'd lost Damien somewhere in all the mayhem, but they'd probably meet up somewhere or other.

Kiandra made her way out of the Dancing Dove. She easily spotted Saraneth and Damien's tracks in the mud of the street. Following the footsteps, she saw Saraneth's wander away from where Damien's were leading. For once, Kiandra let her heart guide her and not her head, even if they were in a greement, and she followed Damien's path. She walked down the crowded lanes easily, her silky black horsetail flicking behind her.
Kiandra spotted Damien ahead of her shortly after she began her jaunt. Coming up behind him, she slipped her arm through his. "Hey there," she said softly, her ice blue eyes easily picking up on the signs of his heavy mind, "copper for your thoughts?"

As he stared back down the path he'd come from the Dancing Dove, Damien wondered if any of his friends had followed him. If they did, they would have a rather hard time finding him in the crowd. A man carrying a burlap sack (of what Damien guessed was potatoes) ran into him from behind. Damien apologized to the man and turned again, walking down the muddy street.
He did not notice Kiandra walking to him from behind, for his mind was still clouded with thought. He felt someone's arm link with his and he turned to see Kiandra with a smile on her face.
"Hey there. Copper for your thoughts?" Damien met her blue eyes, and tried a smile, keeping their arms linked.
"It's only the three lads on my mind, milady." He kept walking with her, turning onto a less crowded street where they wouldn't block people from getting to their destinations. It was also so that the commoners wouldn't accidentally overhear the business of the Rogue; and he knew that they would spread rumors like wildfire. "I think that they'll put up more of a fight than we thought before." He stopped walking and pulled Kiandra to the side.
He put his hands on her shoulders. "I just don't want to see anyone get hurt." His brown eyes met hers, telling her without words that he didn't want to see her get hurt.

Kiandra read his thoughts in his expressive brown eyes. She liked the feeling of his strong hands on her shoulders, and she raised a hand to touch his cheek. "Oh, Damien, I'm just as worried. I know what it's like to be a young ambitious member of the Rogue." She hoped he knew that she didn't want him hurt, either; after all, blue eyes can be just as expressive of emotion as brown.

Damien smiled when she touched his cheek with her hand. He reached up with one of his own, taking her hand in his and drawing it away from his face. His other hand took her other hand, and he brought both of their hands together in front of him. Looking into her blue eyes, he saw that she was thinking and feeling the same things as he was.
"Oh, Damien, I'm just as worried. I know what it's like to be a young ambitious member of the Rogue."
"Kianrda," he said, pausing after he said her name to think of the right words to say. He gave her hands a squeeze before he began speaking again. "Right now is a time when we must both be wary. Although, I think you can agree that there are things that must be said between us."
The smile on his face held as he continued looking into her eyes, as if a silent conversation was being held between them.

"Kianrda,"
Kiandra moved closer to Damien as he gave her hands a squeeze. Her breath came almost unnoticeably faster as her head tilted back slightly to be able to keep eye contact with him. "Yes?" she prompted, her voice holding anote of huskiness.
"Right now is a time when we must both be wary. Although, I think you can agree that there are things that must be said between us."
Kiadnra nodded and a tendril of her black hair fell into her face, though she didn't bother to push it back. "Of course. Both parts, the wariness and that things must be said." It was intoxicating, having their silent conversation with their eyes, being near him, his scent especially. It was manly but comforting at the same time.

"Of course. Both parts, the wariness and that things must be said."
Damien smiled, reaching up with his hand and pushing away the piece of hair that had fallen over her face. She was closer to him now, and he could smell the scent of her skin. Her eyes and his continued their silent speaking; his brown eyes telling her what he wanted to say out loud, but was afraid of doing so. "Yes," he said quietly, his own voice somewhat hoarse. "The things that must be said . . . "
He squeezed her hands again, and decided that they would have to continue the conversation somewhere more private. "I think we'd better find someplace else to talk." As if on cue, thunder rumbled above their heads and fat drops of rain began pelting the people in the marketplace.
Damien grinned as a sudden bolt of lightning flashed over their heads. His eyes were to the sky, watching the clouds with fascination when he remembered Kiandra might not like being soaked in the rain. He met her eyes again and continued smiling. He bent down a little and kissed her swiftly on the cheek. "Let's find someplace dry, shall we?"

Kiandra leaned into Damien and smiled, her eyes shut as she turned her head so their lips met. She met his eyes again and grinned at he thunder, not caring they were getting wet. "Yes, somewhere for only us." She put her arm around his waist and moved down the alley. "The Dancing Dove, or my Mother's house? She wouldn't mind our need for privacy and I know a way in through the back." She began thinking of him, and her, and them in her room at the back of her mother's house. "My brother should be out, too. He likes hanging about the Dove, trying to become a Rogue at only 13."

Damien grinned when her arm slipped around his waist. He draped his own arm on her shoulders as they walked down the alley together. He increased his pace a bit so that they wouldn't get entirely soaked, but he still let Kiandra lead the way. "I think that we should stay clear of the Dove for a while," he told her. "The only other place would be your mother's, then, since the Dove is where I live."
He turned his head and looked at her, his brown eyes shining as another flash of lightning bolted across the sky. The booming thunder that followed seemed to increase the intensity of the rain, and almost comparably, his feelings for Kiandra also intensified.
"So where is this house of your mother's?" he asked, his voice playful. His eyes scanned the line of houses, wondering which one of them could possibly be the one that she lived in. Every one they passed by made him more impatient, and the fast waking wasn't helping either of them not to get soaked, so he slowed down a bit and squeezed her shoulders slightly.

Kiandra smiled up at him, amused by his impatience. "Just a few more houses down." The storm crashed and flashed over head as the gate to the Tailors' home appeared before them. A mortar and pestle, the symbol of a Healer, was on the gate. "Here it is. My mother is a healer, so don't worry if she seems disconcerting. She likes making sure everyone is healthy." Stepping forward, Kiandra took the key out of her belt pouch and unlocked the gate, swinging it open so they could walk through.

"Just a few more houses down."
Damien looked down at her and smiled. "Good, I don't want to be completely soaked." He saw Kiandra look ahead, and he turned his head and looked where she did. He saw a healer's sign above a door, and his eyes glimmered with interest. Healers were always interesting people, and they usually liked most everyone that they met. Damien hoped it would be the same with him.
"Here it is. My mother is a healer, so don't worry if she seems disconcerting. She likes making sure everyone is healthy."
He laughed as Kiandra unlocked the gate. All his mother's lessons of manners and etiquette came flooding back to him. A voice in his head told him that a polite thing to do would be to hold the gate open for her, and that's what he decided to do. As the gate swung forward, Damien reached forward and grabbed it, holding it open for her. "Yes, my mother always made sure that I acted like a gentleman." He grinned and waited for her to walk through the open gate.

"Good, I don't want to be completely soaked."
Kiandra grinned up at him playfully. "Sad to say it, but we already are." She laughed, taking the sting from her words. Rain poured equally down on them and dripped off their clothes and hair.
"Yes, my mother always made sure that I acted like a gentleman."
Kiandra patted Damien's cheek playfully as she walked past him into her mother's yard. "And look what sort of profession you have now, eh? My mother likes a gentleman, she'll approve."

"Sad to say it, but we already are."
Damien stopped walking and looked down at his clothes, noticing that Kiandra was right. Water was dripping from the bottom of his black tunic, and from the ends of his hair. His moved his gaze to see young woman beside him. She was as wet as he was, and in a way, it made her look more beautiful than she had before. Turning away from her to hide the blush that crept into his cheeks, he continued walking through her mother's yard.
"And look what sort of profession you have now, eh? My mother likes a gentleman, she'll approve."
He laughed and looked at her, hie eyes glittering playfully. "How could anyone approve of a crooked old man like me?" He crossed his arms in front of his chest and a wry smile crossed his face.

"How could anyone approve of a crooked old man like me?"
Kiandra laughed, blue eyes bright as she motioned Damien into the yard. "You? Old? I don't think so!" Her expression changing barely, she stepped closer to him. "And she'll have to approve of you, 'cuz I already do."
