"Simple. You move, or Sapphire here dies. All I have to is clap my hands. So. You go too near me and 'snap'. Maybe it'll be a broken back, or neck. Whatever, it is, it'll be painful. I could break her limbs one by one. Whats your choice? Now, move."
Wayne stiffened up, then relaxed. He had to face the truth: he was helpless. If he tried to do anthing, he would just get in the way of the other Tortallans, the ones who could do something.
"Not moving. Well then, let me give you a warning."
He watched with an unmoving expression as Claw broke Sapphire's leg. His eyes moved to the corners, checking if the others were daring to do anything.
"And so, with that, the stakes have been upped. Any attempt to remove my hand, and I will simply close my fist, killing her instantly. If I even feel any magic from any of you I will kill her. Poor Fhire... she must be in so much pain right now. And how would all of you feel if she died? Me, I'm indifferent. But I doubt any of you feel the same way."
Black vines coiled around his arm, and Wayne grimaced. Those were disgusting.
"Do you like them? Its a side affect of my twins magic. Depending on how grim the situation is, they grow and shrink. Needless to say, they haven't been doing much shrinking lately. But enough talk. Move. And if I am forced to escape with Fhire, well, so be it."
Wayne sighed and closed his eyes. What could he do? He could only hope and grab at the first chance he got to help, but fate wasn't giving him any now. He opened his eyes quickly as Rose began talking, followed by Jazz and Kirra.
"No, I think they're disgusting looking. And I'll move. But I want you to lay Sapphire down on the side. Then I'll move and let you out. Now doesn't that sound like a fair compromise?"
"I am willing to move, but how do I know you won't hurt her? Any more, that is? We could move, and you could just kill her for the fun of it. I don't doubt that." Nods. "And you have my word that we will let you out, if you do."
"I will move, if you leave Sapphire safe."
Wayne said nothing, as he felt there was no need to. He moved out of the way and nodded towards Sapphire, to signal that he should release her, although he was in no position to call the shots. "Hmmm... tis a tempting offer. But I think I'll pass. See you."
Claw flew out of the building, startling im, and probably the others as well. As soon as Claw left, Wayne awakened from his clumsy state of saying and doing nothing.
"We have to go after him, but even if we do, I don't think we can convince him or bind him. We'll need a better plan and quick," Wayne said crisply. "I'll stay back to talk to the guards, and hopefully, save a part of the delegation. The Yamanis will hate us after this, since they don't know whether Claw killed the Emperor or not, and they probably don't care. Their Emperor just died. My sympathy goes out to you, Jazz and Sirri."
He turned to leave, but spun back around. He grimaced. "I think I should bring some weapons in case the guards want to kill me. Anyone bring any that I can borrow?" Hand held out to collect a weapon, he added, "And we need to find out who really did kill the Emperor, if Claw didn't, and why they were trying to frame him. I, for one, don't believe Claw killed him. And, finally, where should I meet the rest of you when I'm done?"

"Hmmm... tis a tempting offer. But I think I'll pass. See you."
What the hell? she asked, furious. She didn't speak aloud, didn't want to lose her decorum now. But she needed to vent her anger. Roseanna could relate to the intense anger she was feeling. If he was going to do that, what did he do everything else for? Why did he even bother with Sapphire?[/color][/i] And the realization hit her, and her magical voice lost it's extreme intensity. He didn't want to lose his leverage.
"We have to go after him, but even if we do, I don't think we can convince him or bind him. We'll need a better plan and quick. I'll stay back to talk to the guards, and hopefully, save a part of the delegation. The Yamanis will hate us after this, since they don't know whether Claw killed the Emperor or not, and they probably don't care. Their Emperor just died. My sympathy goes out to you, Jazz and Sirri."
Jasmin nodded, although there was no hint of a smile on her now blank face. "Thank you, Wayne," she said, her voice still strong, but not nearly as powerful. "And that's a good idea. Another good idea would be to get the hell out of here as soon as possible. We do need a better plan, but Roseanna and I will try and sort something out. We've dealt with something of this sort before." She smiled humourlessly, then turned to the rest of the party that was still there. "I would like to poke around here, if I may. There might be something that we can use. But we need to talk to the Yamani representatives as soon as possible if we want any hope of leaving." That was right. If they were to leave at all, they would have to be truth tested. It was only diplomacy that had stopped the guards from arresting all of them. Diplomatic immunity that they could count on now.
"I think I should bring some weapons in case the guards want to kill me. Anyone bring any that I can borrow? And we need to find out who really did kill the Emperor, if Claw didn't, and why they were trying to frame him. I, for one, don't believe Claw killed him. And, finally, where should I meet the rest of you when I'm done?"
"Stables. They'll have put dampening spells on all our rooms by now," she told him, placing two daggers and three throwing stars in his outsretched palm. Then she bent down and picked up the two she dropped, slipping them back into her wrist sheaths. "Best I can do. I know we have to find out who, Wayne. I just hope we'll find something."

"Hmmm... tis a tempting offer. But I think I'll pass. See you."
Rose's eyes flashed and she shook with surpressed rage as Claw flew out of the building. He was having one of his irrational moments again, and he wasn't doing anything to fight it. A thought struck her...maybe he didn't want to fight it. Maybe it was a way to escape pain...not physical pain, but emotional. She frowned. A look flashed from Claw, one that said he would see them later, but not on the best of terms. No, this one looked murderous. This whole delegation was getting out of control, faster than she thought it would've.
"And mine also." she said, her mind trying to work out the snares and tangles of their newest problem. Wayne was right, the Yamani's would probably be ready to throw them all into their prisons. That wouldn't be good.
Rose thought for a moment. "No, this was to...to well set up for Claw to have done it. It was someone else who wanted him out of the way...but who? Bael's supposedly imprisoned, but after that episode I'm really starting to doubt that." she said.
He didn't want to lose his leverage.
"I don't think he did. Taking a hostage is a good leverage Jasmin.
"And that's a good idea. Another good idea would be to get the hell out of here as soon as possible. We do need a better plan, but Roseanna and I will try and sort something out. We've dealt with something of this sort before. I would like to poke around here, if I may. There might be something that we can use. But we need to talk to the Yamani representatives as soon as possible if we want any hope of leaving."
Rose surpressed a shudder. Only diplomatic immunity kept them safe now. They needed to get the others on a boat back home quickly, and only a few of them should stay in the islands.
"We need to get some of us home quickly. The less of us who are here, the better chance we have of something coming up. Now, Wayne, Jasminai, Kirra, Rhianna, and I will stay here to see what we can come up with. I want the rest of us on the next boat out of here."
"Stables. They'll have put dampening spells on all our rooms by now. Best I can do. I know we have to find out who, Wayne. I just hope we'll find something."
"Wonderful. Dampening spells. Gotta love them." she said humorlessly. She hated dampening spells.

"Not moving. Well then, let me give you a warning."
Sirri eyes widened in shock, as Claw broke Sapphire's leg, but she knew that there was nothing that she could do, after all she was probably the least skilled in the group, as she was still a Squire, and she hated being helpless.
Black vines coiled around his arm, Sirri's eyes widened a fraction more, as they could go no larger. She then shook her head, disgusted.
"Do you like them? Its a side affect of my twins magic. Depending on how grim the situation is, they grow and shrink. Needless to say, they haven't been doing much shrinking lately. But enough talk. Move. And if I am forced to escape with Fhire, well, so be it."
"No, I think they're disgusting looking. And I'll move. But I want you to lay Sapphire down on the side. Then I'll move and let you out. Now doesn't that sound like a fair compromise?"

"I will move, if you leave Sapphire safe."
Celes just stood there, for two reasons A) she had no clue what to say to 'Claw', and B) she wasn't standing in his way, as she was still off to the side, not really blocking him, as she had yet to move.
"Hmmm... tis a tempting offer. But I think I'll pass. See you."
Claw flew out of the building, causing Sirri to sigh silently. Well, so much for trying to talk him out of it. She turned, and listened as Wayne started to speak.
Sirri nodded her thanks, as she wasn't really in the mood to talk yet. She never liked to talk after violence, though if she needed to she would, but her voice was usually a bit harsh then, so she prefered to wait a few minutes before speaking.
"No, this was to...to well set up for Claw to have done it. It was someone else who wanted him out of the way...but who? Bael's supposedly imprisoned, but after that episode I'm really starting to doubt that."
Sirri wondered if the weapons that Wayne had taken from Jazz, would make it more likely for the guards to attack. For no one, well with honor anyways, would attack an unarmed man, unless he attacked them unarmed first.
"And that's a good idea. Another good idea would be to get the hell out of here as soon as possible. We do need a better plan, but Roseanna and I will try and sort something out. We've dealt with something of this sort before. I would like to poke around here, if I may. There might be something that we can use. "We need to get some of us home quickly. The less of us who are here, the better chance we have of something coming up. Now, Wayne, Jasminai, Kirra, Rhianna, and I will stay here to see what we can come up with. I want the rest of us on the next boat out of here."
Sirri looked up, and barely stopped herself from protesting. This was not fair!! Though if she wanted to, it would be easy enough for her to sneak off, especiall with her first hand knowledge of the Islands. She considered this, as the adults kept on talking.
"Stables. They'll have put dampening spells on all our rooms by now. Best I can do. I know we have to find out who, Wayne. I just hope we'll find something."
"Wonderful. Dampening spells. Gotta love them."
She finally spoke up, "And what will the rest of us be doing on our way back to Tortall?" She had to force her voice to sound as even as possible, even though she was mad about being sent home, while others stayed and helped. Though, she wasn't quite sure yet if she was going to actually get on the boat, or go her own way, and stay behind.

"And what will the rest of us be doing on our way back to Tortall?"
Wayne thought about Rose's orders than began to speak up again. "Actually," he began, twirling the daggers around absent-mindedly after pocketing the stars, "I would like to return to Tortall. I feel like I'm useless here, so far from home and with a devastating weakness against people with the Gift. My guess is that Claw flew back to Tortall, seeing how the Yamanis think he killed the Emperor. I'll go look for him in Tortall, quicker the better, because Lady Sapphire needs our help badly. And this gives the people returning something to do."
The king needs to be informed, and knights should be sent out to search for Claw. I think it's best that the citizens know about this, as the murder of a leader of a country is important news. Besides they're bound to hear it from people coming in from the Yamani Isles anyways. And our king needs to be guarded well, too."

"No, this was to...to well set up for Claw to have done it. It was someone else who wanted him out of the way...but who? Bael's supposedly imprisoned, but after that episode I'm really starting to doubt that."
"No," Jasmin mused, more to herself then to the other. "I think he may still be imprisoned... But it is magic, Roseanna. You of all people know what you can do, regardless of being trapped or not." Jazz brushed the hair from in front of her eyes, still thinking. "I don't think Bael wanted to set Claw up, if he wanted to use him. I mean, wouldn't he be much more useful if he wasn't wanted by two of the most powerful countries?" She sighed, biting her lip. Her thoughts didn't even make sense to herself. "Oh, I don't know. We'll have to find out soon, though."
I don't think he did. Taking a hostage is a good leverage Jasmin.
I know that! Damn him! Jazz felt like punching something, or burting into tears, or yelling at someone. She was exhausted, but at the same time she had all this pent up energy, burning rage, that somehow had to exit her body. And, at the back of her mind, banished there by a more logical thinking Jasminai, was guilt. Somehow, this was all her fault. She'd triggered something in Claw, yesterday. The rational Jazz knew that it was folly, but surely most of the others had the same feeling? It came with the package.
"We need to get some of us home quickly. The less of us who are here, the better chance we have of something coming up. Now, Wayne, Jasminai, Kirra, Rhianna, and I will stay here to see what we can come up with. I want the rest of us on the next boat out of here."

Jasmin nodded to Wayne, pausing to think before speaking again. "I think that's a good idea," she told him, "The less of us here, the better. Also, I don't think Tortall can afford to have a person of yuor stature imprisoned. I'd say the same about Roseanna, except she and I perhaps have the most experience." She stopped, but was obviously still pondering something. She'd recognized Sirri's tone of voice, having used it herself in the past. "Sirri - you are a citizen of the Islands." her tone was strict, but not unkind. "I'm not going to force you to go back to Tortall, but it will be very dangerous if you stay."

Wayne nodded and replied, "I'll be off then. I'm going to see if I can catch a fast ship." He turned and walked away, calling behind him as he left, "I'll be keeping your weapons, Jazz. Sorry. For at least to the point where I can get my hands back on my own weapons."
His mind snapped on as he thought of a plan of action. Going after Claw alone was not a smart idea, seeing how Wayne had no magical defense, but he had to do it and getting some mages to follow him would slow him down. Deciding that he would search the coastal regions first, due to the fact that Claw will waste less energy by going to coastal areas instead of actually into the middle of the country, Wayne mentally ran through a list of coastal towns as he faded from the view of the others.

"Hmmm... tis a tempting offer. But I think I'll pass. See you."
Kirra stood frozen as he laughed, then winked at them murderously and flew out of the building and elsewhere. Suddenly, her eyes sparked. This certainly wasn't Claw, and he had Sapphire. Probably leverage, her logical side told her. Of course, but that didn't make it any better.
"We have to go after him, but even if we do, I don't think we can convince him or bind him. We'll need a better plan and quick," Wayne said crisply. Kirra nodded. What he said made sense, and they had to act soon. She noticed that he didn't include her in his condolences, but she care much. Tortall was her country now, and she hadn't even been to the Yamani Isles for a decade.
"And mine also."
"Thank you, Wayne, And that's a good idea. Another good idea would be to get the hell out of here as soon as possible. We do need a better plan, but Roseanna and I will try and sort something out.
"No, this was to...to well set up for Claw to have done it. It was someone else who wanted him out of the way...but who? Bael's supposedly imprisoned, but after that episode I'm really starting to doubt that."

Kirra's heart lept into her throat as Rose said she would be staying here. She would have a chance to be useful, and be able to do something. She might not be helpless, as she had been before. In response, Kirra just nodded.
"Stables. They'll have put dampening spells on all our rooms by now," she told him, placing two daggers and three throwing stars in his outstretched palm.
Of course. This diplomatic mission was a mess, and they couldn't leave it like that. Kirra bit her lip as she wondered what had sparked Claw off.
"Wonderful. Dampening spells. Gotta love them."
"Actually," he began, twirling the daggers around absent-mindedly after pocketing the stars, "I would like to return to Tortall. I feel like I'm useless here, so far from home and with a devastating weakness against people with the Gift. Kirra's face was calm as she bit her tongue softly, obviously thinking. There would need to be a good deal of, well, explaining to the Yamani's, and diplomating. It was only diplomatic immunity that kept them safe now, and it would be dangerous. Nevertheless, Kirra would stay. She felt a need to help now, and she could, so she would try.
"Sirri - you are a citizen of the Islands." her tone was strict, but not unkind. "I'm not going to force you to go back to Tortall, but it will be very dangerous if you stay."

Kirra turned slightly to watch Wayne leave, then let her mind flicker in a moment of uncertainty. No. She would stay here. She looked at the three others that were left. Sirri, who obviously wanted to stay, Rose, King's Champion and friend, and Jazz, knight.
((Wow. Long and not very good. O.o.)

((Since no one's posted here for a long time I might as well, especially since I have the time today.)) "Sirri - you are a citizen of the Islands." her tone was strict, but not unkind. "I'm not going to force you to go back to Tortall, but it will be very dangerous if you stay."
Sirri nodded. "Then I will be staying." She looked around the group, there were three Yamani's here as part of the delegate, well, there were four, but Sapphire wasn't here any longer, and it seemed that they would all be staying.
"I'll be off then. I'm going to see if I can catch a fast ship." He turned and walked away, calling behind him as he left, "I'll be keeping your weapons, Jazz. Sorry. For at least to the point where I can get my hands back on my own weapons."
She watched Wayne walk away, and turned back to Jazz. "So, what are we doing now?" She knew that it was a very obvious question, but she was starting to get restless just standing there.
