"Good job, my lady knight, on becoming the Champion."
Rose looked at the man who had said that, who was now kneeling on the floor with his head bowed. Her eyes sparkled.
"Thank you. But please get up, you really don't need to kneel to me. Save it for the monarchs." she said with a wink. "You're the Knight Commander, are you not? I've seen you around and I've heard great stories about you, but I don't believe we've been actually introduced. I'm Roseanna, but you may call me Rose." she said with a smile.
Have you met him Jazz? He seems nice enough. she said to her friend silently.
"Congratulations, Lady Roseanna. I've heard plenty of stories about you, mostly good, and I'm sure you'll continue to do the Crown proud."
Rose looked at the other man who had addressed her, the man in the white shirt, blue tunic, and silvery breeches.
"Thank you sir. I hope I'll continue to do good. Do you mind me asking your name?" she asked politely.
"Only 'mostly'. Darling Rose, what have you been up to?"
"Yes Roseanna, what have you been up to?"
Rose grinned, a gleaming sparkle in her amethyst eyes.
"What have I been up to? Lets see...being appointed Kings Champion, training my squire, filling out paper work," she paused, making a face, "...filling out paper work so that we can find...her." There was no need to specify who her was. It was written all over Rose's face. Cynthia, the former lady of longake.
"But lets not speak of that at the moment. Jazzy Jazz, how is the delegation coming? Are we almost ready to leave?" she asked.

"Congratulations, Lady Roseanna. I've heard plenty of stories about you, mostly good, and I'm sure you'll continue to do the Crown proud."
Sapphire tilted her head and smiled at the interesting/uncomfortable one. She caught Jazz's eye and inwardly broke into giggles. So, this was the uncomfortable one, once again she wondered why he was uncomfortable and exactly who he was. She twirled a curl around her finger. "Mostly, huh?"
"Only 'mostly'. Darling Rose, what have you been up to?"
She grinned at Jazz, "Yes Roseanna, what have you been up to?" she looked at the uncomfortable one , "So who may you be?"

Riana reluctantly followed the crowd into the ballroom where musicians were tuning their instruments. She hoped that her friends would hurry, she hated to be alone at social gatherings such as this. Her deep blue eyes swept the room, taking in the details. Most of the people were waiting to congratulate the new King's Champion, Roseanna of Castlemaine, and others were mingling around the dance floor. Most of the young women and girls were spying discreetly on the most handsome young men, the men that they wanted to dance with. With a deep sigh, Riana scowled. It was women such as the ones searching for dance partners that annoyed her, and that wasn't likely to change for a long while. She had grown up without a lot of money, and it made her jealous of those more privileged than her.
Looking over her shoulder, she saw that Damien and her other companions had not yet entered the ballroom. She wished that they would hurry, but rushing people was something she thought to be rude. While standing alone, she decided that she might as well congratulate Rose on her achievement. Glancing down at her gown, she straightened her skirts and fixed her posture; it was always a good idea to make a good impression with those of higher social standing, even if some of them weren't worth impressing.
Riana crossed the floor, weaving somewhat ungracefully between the small clusters of people. At last she reached the King's Champion, and, with a polite smile on her face, she waited for some other young men to speak to her. After they had finished, she stepped forward and dipped her head, something she had seen other women doing. Not knowing much about court etiquette, she hoped it was the right thing to do.
"My lady Roseanna, I wish you the best of luck with your new position." She met the knight's eyes briefly before looking down at her feet and stepping back somewhat into the crowd.

Rose smiled at her friends and sighed inwardly. Soon she'd have to join Roald and Shinkokami at the front of the ballroom. Not that she minded, it was only for a little while after all. She looked at the people who were still filtering into the ballroom. Most seemed to be nobles, of course. Many of the women were already on the dance floor, casting their eyes about for dancing partners. Others were already dancing and laughing.
"My lady Roseanna, I wish you the best of luck with your new position."
Rose turned around to the voice that had said the remark. A girl with deep blue eyes met her own amethyst ones. A head dipped in acknowledgement, and then the woman steppeed back.
"Thank you. I think I'm going to need the luck. What is your name lady? she said, dipping her head in return acknowledgement.

Rhianna smiled as the Knight Commander came over. It seems the male knights are finally showing up! she thought to herself.
"Congratulations, Lady Roseanna. I've heard plenty of stories about you, mostly good, and I'm sure you'll continue to do the Crown proud."
Rhianna's eyebrows reaised slightly as she took in the newcomer, head slightly thrown back as if in defiance. He truly was interesting, not a knight, but that wasn't bad. She'd danced with Damien at her sister's party after all, hadn't she? "Let me guess, the bad stories were told by some conservative who doesn't like women in armor? Well, either way, glad more people are congratulating my Knight Mistress." She had no issue what so ever dropping broad hints about her position and what she thought of people who were too conservative for her tastes.

"Thank you. I think I'm going to need the luck. What is your name lady?"
Riana watched as Rose dipped her head just as she had done. She had also been addressed as 'lady,' which was something that had never happened before. Her cheeks turned a little pink as she was not used to being treated with so much respect. She stood blinking at the King's Champion for a moment before she realized that a question had been asked. Looking up into the woman's light violet eyes, Riana felt the color in her cheeks deepen. "I'm Riana Pereira, milady," she told the knight. "And just so that you know, I'm by no means a proper lady. I'm a Queen's Rider Trainee."
She looked away from Rose's amethyst eyes and scanned the room again. Damien and Kirra were nowhere to be found, making Riana a little uncomfortable. Having her friends near helped when she was meeting new people--especially noble people. Her eyes returned to the Champion's and she smiled, trying to seem friendly and confident. However, her mind was wanting to seek the refuge of the openness of the palace grounds.

"So who may you be?"
Once again, Luca fixated his grey gaze on the lady in green, surveying with appraisal her appearance close up. "Luc will do fine," he said easily. This is where you should ask her name, too. You've got to do your master proud. "And who would I have the pleasure of speaking to tonight?"
"My lady Roseanna, I wish you the best of luck with your new position."
Another young woman. Overrun indeed. Although this one seemed much closer to his own social standing, and it relaxed him a bit. Luca flashed her a grateful smile. Nobles, well he wasn't really quite sure how to deal with them. Some seemed to demand deference, and that was the easiest way to get thrashed in a fight by him. Idly he wondered whether the ladies had figured out he was far from noble. Probably. He knew he lacked the grace and courtly language of the aristocracy, something in his opinion he was better off lacking.
"Let me guess, the bad stories were told by some conservative who doesn't like women in armor? Well, either way, glad more people are congratulating my Knight Mistress."
Luca raised an eyebrow. "I assure you, I don't tend to listen to the stories of old men too conformist to see they've been beaten. I'd get something kicked if I dared he added mentally. Mithros knows women can fight.
"Besides, my lady Spitfire, or perhaps I should say my lady squire," his eyes sparked and he didn't bother suppressing his amusement, "If all us poor lads heard of Lady Roseanna was complimentary, she'd be too perfect and we'd all lose our hearts.

((Sorry about the late entrance))
Damien remained standing with Kirra as Riana wandered into the ballroom. He watched her go with cautious eyes, making sure that no one suspicious approached her. The girl was sometimes timid, and if a loud, boisterous person bothered her, she would probably shrink away--although there was no way to know for sure. She was, after all, a friend of his and he would look out for her. He turned his gaze back to Kirra and grinned. "Shall we?" he asked her, sweeping his arm toward the ballroom.
A grin still on his face, he turned on his heel and strode through the doors, making sure that he walked more like the upper-class men did. His merchant disguise was working perfectly; no one had yet questioned his identity, and his confidence level was rising gradually. He still watched for anyone staring excessively at him, as that was sometimes a sign that they suspected something of him.
Damien saw Riana walk over and congratulate the King's Champion. He waited until she had greeted the lady knight before walking over to them. While he walked, he noted that a few young women were batting their eyelashes at him. It took all the will in his mind to stop from rolling his eyes. Noble girls typically weren't his type, although there were a few that made good friends.
"I'm Riana Pereira, milady," she told the knight. "And just so that you know, I'm by no means a proper lady. I'm a Queen's Rider Trainee." Damien grinned as he stepped up behind her.
"And I am a friend of hers, milady," he told Rose. "Congratulations, it's about time this kingdom had a Champion worthy of the title." He tried his best to make his speech more like that of the nobles, but it still needed some work.

"I assure you, I don't tend to listen to the stories of old men too conformist to see they've been beaten."
Rhianna did her little quirk, scrunching her nose up and smiling as she laughed. "Well, that's good news. It appears the young never reallly listen to the elders anyway." She said this all in good fun, poking fun at her own young age as well.
"Besides, my lady Spitfire, or perhaps I should say my lady squire," his eyes sparked and he didn't bother suppressing his amusement, "If all us poor lads heard of Lady Roseanna was complimentary, she'd be too perfect and we'd all lose our hearts."
Rhianna tossed her head back as she laughed at her nickname. "Spitfire or squire is fine with me. I've been called worse." She shook her head in amusement, liking Luc's sense of humor. "Rose would probably beat you all over the head with her sword if all the young lads came after her." A chuckle escasped her, and she mock pouted. "And where would that leave the rest of us young warrioresses?"

"Let me guess, the bad stories were told by some conservative who doesn't like women in armor? Well, either way, glad more people are congratulating my Knight Mistress."
Rose shook her head with a smile.
"Luc is it then? Well Luc, allow me to introduce my squire, Lady Squire Rhianna of Queenscove." she said. The titles weren't meant to frighten, they were just out of respect of Tortalls noblest family. "Rhianna is quite open about her feelings." she said with a grin.
I'm Riana Pereira, milady," she told the knight. "And just so that you know, I'm by no means a proper lady. I'm a Queen's Rider Trainee."
"Well then Riana, thank you. The Queen's Riders you say? Good. We've needed them desperatley, Thayet had a remarkable idea when she started them." she said.
" And I am a friend of hers, milady," he told Rose. "Congratulations, it's about time this kingdom had a Champion worthy of the title."
Rose laughed.
"I thank you, sir Merchant," she said. This was the man Sapphire had been talking to. She'd have to keep an eye on him for the rest of the night, though she was sure he wouldn't do anything. "Please, tell me your name."
"Rose would probably beat you all over the head with her sword if all the young lads came after her."
Rose laughed.
"Now come on. I wouldn't do that to every man who came after me." she said jokingly.

"But lets not speak of that at the moment. Jazzy Jazz, how is the delegation coming? Are we almost ready to leave?"
Jasminai shook her head. "What, you've decided Fhire's having too much fun to ask her?" she teased, winking. She knew Fhire was far too busy with current delegate work to be involved with organizing the trip. That had been left up to Jazz, and she quite grateful for that. Only recently healed, she couldn't really do anything else - so she was kept busy. "It coming along fine. I won't tell anyone when we're leaving, because you really ought to know that by now. Almost ready, yes. I believe our Knight Commander here ill be joining us," she said, indicating and smiling at Wayne.
The small group had grown considerable to include the aformentioned Sir Wayne [who she had met before], Riana and her friend [who she hadn't], and this 'Luc'. She decided he was a pleasant enough man. He obviously wasn't a noble, and unused to situations like these, but he seemed to be easing up. The interaction between him, Fhire and Rhianna was indeed quite amusing.
"Rose would probably beat you all over the head with her sword if all the young lads came after her. And where would that leave the rest of us young warrioresses?"
"Rhianna is quite open about her feelings."
Jasmin chuckled. Rhianna had a wonderful sense of humour, and her easy remarks had hit the nail on the head. It was almost precisely what Roseanna would do. Roseanna on the other hand, was asking for it. "And there are no queries about where she gets it from," Jasmin remarked drily, fighting the instant urge to duck. She wasn't within swatting distance.

Damien waited as Rose spoke, still standing behind Riana and slightly to her right side. "Well then Riana, thank you. The Queen's Riders you say? Good. We've needed them desperately, Thayet had a remarkable idea when she started them." For a moment, he thought about how she was right. The Riders had lessened the strain on Tortall's armies, making it so that the troops weren't spread thin throughout the realm.
"I thank you, sir Merchant," said Rose. "Please, tell me your name." Damien's eyes flashed at this request, she was the first one ask his name. He grinned, as he was prepared in case someone did ask him questions of his identity. What he would tell them wasn't exactly truthful, but it wasn't completely a lie either. "My name is Alexander, milady," he said with a slight dip of his head. It was, after all, his middle name, so he wasn't lying very much...
His brown eyes left Rose for a moment to look at another man, one some of the women had called Luc. He seemed uncomfortable here, like Riana, and it made him wonder about then other man's profession. He had seen Luc before, but he couldn't remember exactly where. The thought of it nearly drove him mad, but he tended not to show emotions of insanity in his expressions.

"And there are no queries about where she gets it from,"
Rose laughed lightly.
"You're lucky you're out of my reach young knight." she said in a mock haughty tone, impersonating one she hated with a passion. "I am of noble birth, you can't treat me like that." she winked at Jazz.
"My name is Alexander, milady."
Rose nodded.
"Well then Alexander, I hope to speak to you later in the evening," she said. Frantic arm waving at the front of the ball room caught her eye. A herald was trying to catch her attention, probably meaning that she was wanted at the front to speak to the King and Queen. She sighed.
Here goes nothing. she thought.
"Jazz, Fhire, Rhianna, Luc, Alexander, Riana, my lord Knight Commander; if you will please excuse me for a moment, I do believe I'm wanted up front." she said. She winked at Jazz, Fhire, and Rhianna and made her way up front, occasionally being stopped to greet nobles and to be congratulated. Finally she made it to the front of the room where Roald and Shinkokami sat on the thrones. She dipped gracefully into a curtsy, since she was in a dress after all.
"Your Majesties," she murmured. "I do believe that I was being signaled by a hearld that you wanted me. Is there of some way that I can be of service?" she asked, her amethyst eyes sparkling.

"Now come on. I wouldn't do that to every man who came after me."
Rhianna gave a sheepish grin. "Yeah, but you'd have fun trying it out on the rest of them!"
"And there are no queries about where she gets it from."
Rhianna felt her cheeks flush slightly. "Yeah, my father, my mother, my siblings, and my Knight Mistress." She went on in a dramatic tone. "It seems I couldn't escape it if I tried!" She knew she ought to duck, but had a feeling she'd be too late anyway.
"My name is Alexander, milady."
Rhianna tried to resist the urge to raise her brows, but she couldn't quite help herself. She knew somewhere under all the finery was Damien.
Here goes nothing. she thought. "Jazz, Fhire, Rhianna, Luc, Alexander, Riana, my lord Knight Commander; if you will please excuse me for a moment, I do believe I'm wanted up front."
Rhianna smiled supportively at Rose. Luck, Rose[/color], she thought to her Knight Mistress as the older woman left. "Have fun with their Majesties, Rose," she said aloud, a wicked grin creeping around her mouth.

Spitfire or squire is fine with me. I've been called worse. Rose would probably beat you all over the head with her sword if all the young lads came after her. And where would that leave the rest of us young warrioresses?
He was tempted to smile. But not so tempted he would risk flashing those Mithros-forsaken dimples. Instead, he gave his signature half-smile- the expression that found itself on his face every time he fought the urge to smile properly. Luca regarded Spitfire with flashing eyes. Lady Rhianna of Queenscove, it seemed. One of those old nobles. He wondered what she was doing, consorting with the likes of him. Come on, not all nobles could be that conservative. She'd have had to fight her way up, same as you.
"Luckily for all those budding warrioresses, I've relinquished my dreams of loving the Lady Rose, a great pity to her I'm sure. Seems you'll have to put up with me instead," he replied, a hint of laughter still in his tone.
Another man. Seemingly a merchant. But Luc, with all his experience with disguises, sensed this merchant was not all he seemed. A bit too rich- perhaps a wayward noble son trying to play down his status- although the speech wasn't quite right for that. Maybe a merchant who dealed with his type- a fence, selling plundered goods on the wider market. He wasn't sure. The features, perhaps, he knew from somewhere. Not Port Legann, he thought. So it must have been in the few weeks he'd been here. Well, Luc had better watch him, in that case, to figure out his identity. In any case, Luc had decided the second option was far more likely- My name is Alexander, milady, he'd said, an introduction somewhat like his own. And what merchant would pass up the opportunity to show off, to gloat, to flog his wares unless he knew the Crown would disapprove? Curious. It seemed the Corus balls weren't merely filled with stuffy noble conservatives after all. A wicked grin curved his lips.
