_________dystopia
It’s 1977, and the First War is raging on all sides. Voldemort and his followers are rapidly gaining power. Casualties in muggles and magic-folk alike abound; the Death Eaters and the Dark Lord merciless. It is widely believed that one of the only safe places left is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, run by the esteemed Albus Dumbledore, where the youths of wizarding Britain learn how to make use of their magical talents.
The Hogwarts students are all aware of the problems surrounding them; the War affects all of them. Some take Hogwarts’ safety for granted, believe nothing would happen to them, and it’ll be over by the time the graduate. Some have been affected traumatically by the events, friends and family members killed or hurt. Others are in it too deep, and are on the path to becoming Death Eaters themselves.
And a few, a small percentage of the Hogwarts population, personally affected or not, want to do something about it; they want to make a difference. But what is unknown is how big a difference every decision is. Do things such as deciding to become an Auror, to join the Order of the Phoenix or to become a Death Eater really matter?
Let’s take a look at the future. There was a prophecy, speaking about to one person that would defy Lord Voldemort. And this prophecy could apply to two people – Harry Potter, or Neville Longbottom. If you looked closer, paid more attention, you’d see that Harry was the only son of Lily Evans and James Potter, and Neville was likewise the son of Alice Thompson and Frank Longbottom – two couple, and all four of them Order member, all four of them having personally defied Voldemort three times and lived.
Let’s take a look at the past, and we see how important these few things are. Events that led up to eventual marriage of Lily and James, might never have taken place. Frank and Alice could have fallen in love with the wrong people. Would there be a prophecy, or would our world then be lost? With no saviour, would the world as we know it become some sort of… dystopia?? Only time will tell. It's only the sixth year, Ladies and Gentlemen, 1977.
