Mage
Gift, the: human, academic magic, the use of which must be taught.
Mage: a wizard, male or female.
- Trickster's Choice Glossary
Mages have use of the Gift, magic they were born with. It can be used to good, or evil. The mage is a versatile class, since it has many sub-classes. A Gift can be centered towards a specific class (such as Healing), but in many cases it is a general magic that can be steered towards anything. Below are a few examples.
- Battlemage. A battlemage is a person whose Gift has been trained for war. Destruction and killing is what they do best.
- Contrarily, a Healer is a person who has been trained to use their magic for the good of the people. Specially trained in the medical field, they use their magic as well as herbs and potions to help the sick and injured.
Magic, while not uncommon, is not often found in large quantities. Strong mages must be trained, or they are a danger to themself and those around them
Wildmage
Wildmage: mage who deals in wild magic, the kind of magic that is part of nature.
Wild magic: magic that is part of the natural world. Unlike the human Gift, it cannot be drained or done away with; it is always present.
- Trickster's Choice Glossary
Not strictly a mage, since they don't have the Gift, a wildmage is a person with a link to animals. Through this bond they can communicate with animals, and form friendships with them. They can also transform into animals and heal animals. Full wildmages are very rare.
It is not possible to have the Gift and Wildmagic at the same time. On VT, we do have two characters with both of these forms of magic because if we were to change them, many character histories would differ drastically. As VT is a continuation of L.o.T., we found that allowing these two characters was the only good option. We are not, however, accepting any more characters with both of these.
The Gift is not uncommon among Tortall's population, but be warned: most do not have the Gift is extremely larg equantities. Unless your character is an established mage, I doubt that we would accept him/her is he/she is in possesion of such a powerful Gift.
We will not be accepting any more full Wildmages. VT already has quite a few, so unless you have an extremely good reason to have it, don't bother.
