Rose leaned against the wall, watching the banter take place. She watched Avelia carefully. She knew her ways much better now, especially after fighting over Jakelonge with her.
Then she turned her amethyst gaze to Heradite. The Prince looked extremely annoyed at the fact that Avelia was there.
She stood up and walked around the room, taking it all in. The room was finely furnished, with comfortable chairs, the most comfortable looking one being the large one that Avelia was seated in. The rest of the furniture was polished beautifully until it shined.
I wonder where Aly's office is. she thought.
"Avelia, will you please decide something so that we're not at a stalemate all day long? I need to find Aly and talk to her and Heradite about Cynthia of Longlake. I can't find her and she's wanted for treason!" she said.

"I've come to a conclusion already," Avelia said, coolly. "You can't go after Cynthia without me. If you do, I'll sabotage your operations." Her eyes glittered darkly, her words as much of a promise as could be taken from her.
"I've a personal vendetta of my own to pursue with Cynthia," she said by way of explanation. Back in the fight for Jakelonge fief, Avelia had ended up having to outmanouvre Cynthia and Baelinicus in addition to Tammia's protectors. Not that it hadn't been expected, but Avelia still wanted to settle the score.
"If you have to, just pretend I'm not here. It can't be that difficult."

"You can't go after Cynthia without me. If you do, I'll sabotage your operations."
Rose swung her gaze back to Avelia, her amethyst eyes darkening. A part of her wanted to snap back at the comment about not being able to go after Cynthia without her, but then again, Avelia was a very useful ally, and Rose would rather not have Avelia turn against her.
"I've a personal vendetta of my own to pursue with Cynthia."
Rose didn't even bother to ask what that business was. Avelia probably wouldn't tell her anyways.
"Fine. Come with me then. But in the mean time, will you please work out this feud with Heradite so that I can talk with him?" she demanded with a scowl. Her patience was getting thin.

Avelia switched her eerie gaze on Heradite, her unnaturally light green eyes glowing. A few minutes passed, and still she stared at him. The inner clockwork of her mind worked furiously, deriving a wording of an oath she could hold to.
"I swear to you, on my blood, that I'll try nothing on the pathetic little estate," Avelia said finally, decisively. "Now stop behaving like a snivelling toddler and prove you're worthy of a royal title. Seems to me it's far too easy to provoke your delicate sensibilities. You're far too literal, holding faith in words."

"Well, now that Avelia is sworn by blood, may I aks who Cynthia is? And please wait for Aly, she is probably busy moving the furniture, and you wouldn;t want to get in the way." He said, wondeirng at the strange turn of events. He blinked, ignoring the offensive tounge by the mysterious girl. If hse broke the blood oath, then its her death, and if she did try something, then her blood won't be cool.
He stood up and then ordered a footman to come. He was thirsty and offred the two a drink, and some food. "Now that I can make sure Avelia won't siege the estates, would any of you want food and drinks?"

"Well, now that Avelia is sworn by blood, may I ask who Cynthia is?
Rose nodded her head.
"You may. Cynthia was a 'lady' born in Northern Tortall, no one really knows to whom and to what fief. She wanted to become a page badly. All we know is that her biological parents were in the uprising against the crown awhile ago. So, fearing that she to would turn treasonous, she was denied the page status and sent to live with the Lord and Lady of Longlake. She was adopted by them and stood to inherit. Then she marrried a man by the name of Baelincius of Darksea, and they waged war against one of Tortalls strongest fiefs, Masbolle. They had key figures imprisoned; Claw of Masbolle, who at the time was dead, his fiance Jasmin of Carmine Tower, and me," she said, her eyes cold as she told about the couple, "They turned me into a centaur and took control of our minds. Anyways Claw was brought back from the dead and was able to cancel out the magic holding Jasmin and I and we were able to kill Bael...but we really don't think he's dead, he's a powerful necromancer. Anyways, after Bael was killed, Cynthia disappeared, and she's been stripped of her titles. She's highly powerful and dangerous, and we're trying to find her before anything gets out of hand. She's a lady necormancer, so we think she's trying to find a way to bring Bael back to life. Thats why I need to talk to Aly, and them I'm on to the Yamani Isles." she said. "I hope that explains everything to you your Highness."
"Now that I can make sure Avelia won't siege the estates, would any of you want food and drinks?"
Rose smiled gratefully.
"Yes please. That'd be terrific."

"Thats why I need to talk to Aly, and them I'm on to the Yamani Isles."
"Well, she's here," Aly drawled from where she was leaning on the doorframe of the balcony. She then continued, with mock concern, "I do hope I haven't been keeping you waiting. I had a sudden desire to rearrange furniture." The Spymaster of the Copper Isles grinned, crossing her arms and entering the room proper. Tanair Castle was home to Alianne "Homewood", or at least one of them. She was at ease here, among familiarity.
She was dressed simply, and had plainly been riding: soft, black breeches, a green shirt and deerskin boots that allowed her to move quickly and easily. Several dagger were concealed in her person, though she thoroughly doubted she'd have to use them. "Yes, Heradite, I know all," she remarked, her eys sparkling. "Rose and... Avelia?" The latter did suprise her. She knew who she was, of course, but why on Earth was she here?
"What brings you here, fellow countrymen?" she enquired sweetly, "Looking for me, no less."
[It's not very good, but I haven't yet read TQ, so I'm a bit rusty on Aly. *slinks off to reread TC*]

Rose grinned as she turned to face her former knightmistresses daughter. Aly had finally arrived.
"I do hope I haven't been keeping you waiting. I had a sudden desire to rearrange furniture."
"Hello Aly. Glad you could make it." she said casually. "And don't we all get that desire to rearrange furniture at times." she said happily.
"What brings you here, fellow countrymen? Looking for me, no less."
"You're so smart Aly. Yes, I'm looking for you. I have no idea why Avelia is here, she claims to be sort of on the same type of mission I'm on. Anyways, I'm looking for the former Lady Cynthia of Longlake. She's wanted for high treason. We're thinking that she's hiding with a foreign nation and that she's trying to bring her dead husband back to life. We need your help to watch for her." she said seriously, her amethyst eyes solemn.

"Hello Aly. Glad you could make it. And don't we all get that desire to rearrange furniture at times."
"I know," she said airily, "It just creeps up on you." She smiled and walked forward to embrace her old friend. They'd known each other for ages, and Alianne liked the Lady Knight. "So, how is everyone? We really must catch up, so many questions - from both of us, I'm guessing," she commented, curious. Oh yes, so many questions! Aly had heard about the Masbolle War in great detail, but Rose was there, Rose knew everything...

"Cynthia of Longlake," Aly repeated, as if trying to dredge up an old memory, "Cynthia of Longlake! Blonde, dratted gift for necromancy. Met her once, before all this. Terrible." Alianne sounded joking and light, but her brain was now working overtime. Longlake, she knew exactly who that was, and why she was wanted for High Treason against the Crown. She and Rose were going to have to talk about that. "I'll do my best, Roseanna, but she's a clever one. I doubt we'll find her on looks."

I know," she said airily, "It just creeps up on you."
Rose laughed lightly. She loved Aly to death. They'd become great friends when she had been Alanna's squire. Sometimes Rose had thought Alanna had been a bit pressing when it came to her daughter, sometimes nit-picking about how Aly had to find something to do.
So, how is everyone? We really must catch up, so many questions - from both of us, I'm guessing."
Rose smiled.
"Everyone's fine Aly. I've got a letter here from your father to give to you. And everyone at the palace says high, Numair and Diane send their love as do Rikash and Sara." she said.
"Cynthia of Longlake, Cynthia of Longlake! Blonde, dratted gift for necromancy. Met her once, before all this. Terrible."
Rose nodded her agreement. "I totally agree with you there Aly. She is horrible. She annoys me greatly, ever since my page days, when she was training to be a gods cursed necromancer."
"I'll do my best, Roseanna, but she's a clever one. I doubt we'll find her on looks."
"I doubt so to. She'll probably have found some way to disguise herself...but there are personality traits that she definitly won't be able to hide." she said grimly.

"If nothin' else, she could never hide the look in her eyes," Avelia said, quietly. "No magic, no disguise could ever hide that." There was a certain quality about the pure malevolence they held that would shine through, no matter what. Avelia knew the look because she'd seen it before, so many times, on countless people, even on occasion she would look in the mirror and be awed by her expression. Yet on Cynthia, there was something different about it.
Heradite had been silent, like she, during Rose and Alianne's conversation. It had not been a decision Avelia had wanted to make, choosing to make the oath. But she knew that there was no way she would try anything. No, she thought grimly, I don't try. I just do. She wondered whether he'd picked up that she hadn't promised not to harm anyone. She hadn't specified what she wouldn't try. And in the back of her mind, when the words left her lips, Avelia had meant that she would not attempt to take over the estate, this visit. If the mood took her, Avelia knew that she would not hesitate to fight him, regardless of whether her twist of the oath had worked or not. Nevertheless, it was now too late for Heradite to extract another oath from her. A slight smirk curled her lips.

"Everyone's fine Aly. I've got a letter here from your father to give to you. And everyone at the palace says high, Numair and Diane send their love as do Rikash and Sara."
"Oh, wonderful," she remarked. She did miss her Tortallan friends and family greatly, though she was not one to show it. News from the father was not uncommon, though, but Alianne still treasured it. "I trust everyone made a good recovery, judging from yourself?" There was no question about what she was referring to. Tortall's victory had been at a great price, and Aly cared about the injured's recovery, just as every Tortallan did.
"I totally agree with you there Aly. She is horrible. She annoys me greatly, ever since my page days, when she was training to be a gods cursed necromancer."
"I suppose you could say "annoying". She seemed more along the lines of evil, if you ask me." Alianne had no patience for the few necromancers there were, and there were very few. Raising the dead was plain unnatural, not to mention earing the wrath of every god and goddess, including the Black God himself. Chaos was perhaps the only divine being that held with it, and anyone backed by Chaos was sure to be evil at heart.
"I doubt so to. She'll probably have found some way to disguise herself...but there are personality traits that she definitly won't be able to hide."
"I hope so. There's no way she'd be able to act as nobility, so word of a strange commoner will get around. The nobility are eccentric as a rule, but commoners.... word get 'round." Aly still sounded doubtful, though. She was a busy woman, and searching for someone on characteristics alone...
"If nothin' else, she could never hide the look in her eyes. No magic, no disguise could ever hide that."
Alianne was startled at Avelia's comment. The Spymaster had been suprised at her presence in the first place, ot to mention her apparent easiness around Roseanna, Heradite, and herself. The Queen had been quiet until then, but she sounded serious on this... she wondered what grudge Avelia held. And it was true... "Wise words, there," she said quietly, "You're quite right. But only agents who've experienced that will know what to look for, and there are precious few."

"If nothin' else, she could never hide the look in her eyes. No magic, no disguise could ever hide that."
Rose looked over at Avelia. Cynthia's eyes. How could you not notice those?
"Very true Avelia. Very true. Her eyes color stands up to their name. Ice. That woman feels nothing in the least." she said.
"I trust everyone made a good recovery, judging from yourself?"
Rose smiled.
"I did. It took a heck of a long time though. About 3-4 weeks to get my health back, and then another 2 weeks of training myself back up! I felt like I was a page again. Jasminai of Carmine Tower faired the worst though. Her fiance's demon showed its ugly face and attacked her. She took a very long time to heal, since she'd developed a resistance to healing. She took twice as long as I did...and she's still recovering." she said with a wane smile.
"I suppose you could say "annoying". She seemed more along the lines of evil, if you ask me."
"She is evil AND annoying. But evil most of all. she said in agreement.
"I hope so. There's no way she'd be able to act as nobility, so word of a strange commoner will get around. The nobility are eccentric as a rule, but commoners.... word get 'round."
"Very true. She's going to have a hard time hiding her personality traits. How many spies do you have working for you Aly? I brought some extra men with me that need some training in the field, and I thought you'd be the perfect teacher. she said with a wink.

"I am sorry, but I can't let Aly tell you how many spies we have." He suddenly interrupted, taking all of this in. The man brinign int he food finally came, and Heradite managed ot get him to come forward. He whispered int he man's ears, knowing full well Aly could hear "Check all ships from Tortall that have come in within the past two weeks. Check out to see if anybody looked differently, from hair to eyes. If so, gather upt hese people and send ot to Queen Dove as prisoners. Bring mages with you, one is a necromancer, and is very dangerous. Find her if hse is not at the docks, with her characterisitcs."
The man, leaving the food behind, left and Heradite turned back to the conversation. "There is a way to hide the eyes, and that is using a real life mask. But I doubt she would be wearing one. Also more than likely she is at the capital. There will be a full scale investigation on the docks and nearby it, I suppose, by Aly's spy network."

Heradite, who had remained silent throughout their conversation, suddenly spoke up.
"I am sorry, but I can't let Aly tell you how many spies we have."
Rose turned to Heradite and nodded her head. Though she'd rather have an idea of how many spies Aly actually did have, she'd have to wait to find out.
"Understandable." she said with a smile. "I'd probably say the same thing if I were in your shoes. All the same, I'd like to leave the men I brought with Aly so that they can be trained. Her father would've done it himself, but the King keeps him busy, so he told me to bring them to Aly instead."she said.
A man brought in a tray of food and drinks and set them down on a table. Rose smiled gratefully at him.
"Thank you very much." she told him appreciatively. Heradite then leaned in and whispered something in the mans ear, and he left.
"There is a way to hide the eyes, and that is using a real life mask. But I doubt she would be wearing one. Also more than likely she is at the capital. There will be a full scale investigation on the docks and nearby it, I suppose, by Aly's spy network."
Rose nodded her head. She'd heard of that spell before. And if she had, then Cynthia very well would know of it.
"I've heard of this spell...it can be dead useful in the career of a rouge, possibly a knight, or a spy. I should've used it countless times, though I refused to. Stupid really." she admitted, pouring herself a glass of water.
